Robert was one of the first ministers of the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Eau Claire. A memorial window in his honor was installed in that church. He was a circuit rider and died of pneumonia contracted while conducting revival services.

William enlisted, Company A, 37th Regiment, Wisconsin, 15 mar 1864. Wounded at Petersburg 4 aug 1864. Discharged from Lowell Hospital, Portsmouth, Rhode Island, 02 jan 1865. Went to Kansas again in 1877.
